The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a significant honors show approaches, there’s always a demand for the addition additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
